I figured out why the additional menu was open. I needed to add all the mobile css from the parent theme into my mobile section of my child theme for the additional menu and assign it's class to these additional CSS callups. The additional menu was given a new class in order to style it differently from the main menu on my desktop setup. But now both mobile buttons are closed and won't open.
