You should only need our plugin in order to create and display galleries. Here is where you can upload through our plugin options panel, do you see this tab on your WP Dashboard, see screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/zYjemUvy4
Is this where you have been uploading your images? If not, could you deactivate all plugins > clear your browser cache > and try uploading and display a gallery here.
